Going through the motions

I know, I know...I've been very quite lately but I have my reasons...mainly that absolutely nothing worth mentioning has been going on in my life for quite some time.

After collecting my car from Pretoria my mum had to rush off to Zimbabwe to attend my brother's grandmother's funeral so I have been stuck at her place making breakfasts and generally being bored (I did play a fair amount of Neverwinter Nights though - now I understand why James thinks the best class for that game is rogue.)

After she got back on Monday D and I have been running all those errands we have been putting off since we lost the car and generally enjoying being mobile again. I went back to gym yesterday for the first time in ages. I didn't have the courage to weigh myself - I've suddenly started eating like a horse again, hoovering up everything not nailed down. I'll try and do it today. My new trainers are nice though (my last pair got stolen in our last burglary).

As for the rest of my time, I'm mainly trying to pull together a move for us. I'm not holding out much hope for July though...there is NOTHING worth living in around at the moment. Hopefully we can find something for August.

Collecting the Car

So, Darius and I spent the weekend in Joburg. While we were there we:

- Tormented each other with a singing Barney toy
- Were forced to listen to the Pink Panther theme song over and over by my dad's step-grandson (aged 2)
- Bought a fabulous dance mat for D's Playstation
- Had my stepsister and her hubby over for dinner and listened to funny stories about their cat. (They had one of those electronic cat flaps put in. The cat has a big magnet on it's collar to activate it. Cue laughter as cat gets stuck to fridge, belt buckles etc.)
- Picked up the new car! Look at how shiny it is...

Now it's back to work. I dislike work. Mainly because I have so much to do that has nothing to do with my actual job. Like find a new place to live. And do a long written assignment by tommorrow. And sort out my insurance which is giving me hassels.

To top it all off, my brother's grandmother passed away in Zimbabwe so they are leaving tommorrow for the funeral. So on top of everything I will be babysitting her bed and breakfast (which is very busy this week.) Bugger.

Harassed by my own father!

I bought a label maker. Isn't it pretty? I am SO going to be the Goddess of Organisation. I would love to buy a filing cabinet but fridges and chairs and stuff must come first.

I've taken about a dozen calls from my Dad today. He is looking for a car for me up in Pretoria and is loving every minute of it. He's like Sarah Jessica Parker in a shoe store. It's sweet but I do wish he'd stop calling to ask me what I think of Opels/Alphas/Unos ... I don't know! I don't know anything about cars! I don't have deep emotional feelings about what brand of fax machine I use, why would I care about the car I drive?

Oops! they did it again...

It's been a long time since I've written. I make no excuses, but....

On Thursday last week we had another burglary. That's the 4th in 2 years. I've had it. I'm moving as soon as I am able. This decision has left me with a whole heap of things to do, each of them with problems of it's own:

1. Buy a car

We finally got paid out by the insurance, but I must admit I am struggling with the car hunt. All we've managed to find so far is rubbish - and we aren't even looking at really cheap cars. Add to this the fact that it is rather difficult to find a car because I haven't got transport and the fact that I am not thrilled with the idea of storing the new car at our current residence and you'll see why car shopping is NOT my favourite activity at the moment.

2. Find a new place to live

I have no way to drive to flats to check them out, and Darius works all the time with no lunch break so it's hard for me to arrange for us to see anything.

3. Buy things

The moving out decision was made rather suddenly, with no fiscal planning at all. And everything we had of value has been stolen. Cue serious money-worries.

That said, part of me is kinda keen to be moving, I'll enjoy having our own space again. Even if we do have to use camping furniture in the living room.

All this means that Operation GAG is shelved for the moment because of the pressing need to tackle: Operation Masking Tape. Part 2.

In other news:

Last week my mother had two Turkish Delight manufacturers staying in her bed and breakfast. I went to see them at the Royal Show on Thursday: Look at all those flavours...blue gum, ginger, rose, original, carrot and macadamia nut, rose cream, pecan nut, orange peel ...mmmmmmm

I went to go see my brother on Sunday, we flew kites and had lunch at the Wild Coast Sun. Lots of driving but it was fun.
