I swear, for the last time, it is NOT a shotgun wedding

Well, it's been a couple of days since I've posted.

Saturday was fairly uneventful, mainly work and shopping. We did go and see a movie in the evening, well two movies really - Darius saw 'Hoodwinked' and I saw 'United 93'. It was so much better than I thought it would be. Gripping.

On Sunday...D proposed. It was over a lovely breakfast, and I was very surprised.

The next couple of days have been spent informing friends and family, and hiding at home when the fuss gets too much. Darius and I have mainly been chuckling at how everyone is now taking us seriously as a couple, as if there will be some enormous change after marriage (what do they think we've been doing the past 8 years???)I have been surprised at how fast the news has spread (I've been getting calls from old work collegues and friends of friends). Everyone has been really nice though (except for the 'It's about time! comments)

My mother is thrilled to bits, I think she would have the wedding next week if she could. Oh right, a wedding, another thing for me to worry about...

Nature's Croutons

So I've been away from work for a few days. D had half-term so I took some leave so we could catch up on things. We shopped, went to the bank, got haircuts (Sian at Andrew Hendry is the best hairdresser ever!) and did a bunch of stuff we don't have a chance to do on normal weeks.

Movies watched:

'Just My Luck' - cutesy date movie...ah, sweet. Best Bit - Lindsay Lohan using a floor polisher at a bowling alley, while wearing stilettos.
'Lady in the Water' - weird, but a good watch if that is your thing. Best Bit - the film critic in the corridor.

Food eaten:

Darius and I are currently doing a tasting tour of Hot Dogs of KZN. We tried the 'Chip and Roll' (we were bored on Friday so we went to Durban), I figure 3 stars. An average hot dog.
If you're interested, Hot Dog Cafe does the best commercial hot dog (4 stars) but I still rate home made cheese dogs as tops (4.5 stars).

Games played:

Me - The Sims 2
Darius - Rome Total War

Books read:

Jane Austen's 'Sense and Sensibility' (almost finished)

Bullets shot:

18. I fired my first gun on Saturday. I suck, but it's okay cause Darius rocks at it, so he can shoot the criminals for both of us. I'll provide cover fire.

Garden refuse removed:

1 trailer load. Honestly, after struggling for an hour to fill the trailer with VERY uncooperative vine-type branches, I am completely willing to pay someone to do it for us.

Deliveries received:

Diablo Battle Chest. It's a classic.

Resolutions made:

I had a look at my brother's pictures of the shooting on Saturday. When did I turn into a whale? My gosh, I knew I was large - but the chick in those pictures is a stranger. I am disgusted with myself. The diet begins (again).

Old friends seen:

One. Scotty joined us for roleplaying. Twas fun to remember all the fun we've had roleplaying in the past. Thanks for coming, we had a blast.

Nippy Noodles

Friday

Go see 'Maimi Vice'. I haven't had to sit through such rubbish in ages - honestly, it was awful.
Went to Golden Dragon for dinner with D. It's been a long, long time since he and I have had a proper dinner out. It was lovely spending an evening trashing 'Miami Vice', mocking other couples who have nothing to say to each other and generally making nuisances of ourselves.
I have heard on more than one occasion people complaining that Chinese food gives them insomnia. I always passed it off as whining. Until it happened to me. I spent ages tossing and turning that night - it was dreadful (but worth it, I love Chinese food).

Saturday

Magic - and afterwards, D and I went on a picnic with Jude at Bot Gardens. Ate much cheese and had much fun. Was a bit nippy noodles though.

Sunday

First to the mall to but gifts and then to Hamilton's for breakfast with my family to celebrate my grandfather's birthday. After that we went out to Hilton to Baby Beth's first birthday party -ah, cute. I even got to play basketball for the first time in ages.

In other news, the Candy Fast is still going strong, the kiddies birthday party was tough ( I love cupcakes :( ) but otherwise I'm doing well. And I finally finished the old Book of the Week, it was very dull, and rather pointless. Much like my life these days. Bleh.

What I've been up to:

Went to lunch with brother for his 18th birthday yesterday. Had Chicken breast stuffed with fig jam and covered in blue cheese and apple sauce. No dessert, that's three days without sugary food...yay!

Finished Neverwinter Nights, started Shadows of Unrentide.

Almost finished my Book of the Week (read: Book of the Fiscal Quarter), gosh it is bad.

Avoided studies.

Stop the Madness

There are 5 things wrong with my life:

1. The whole 'moving' thing is NOT going well
2. I'm eating like a horse
3. I'm so busy making up lost time on studying that I really don't have time to work on anything else
4. All the candy I've been eating has made my skin break out in the worst way - I feel like I'm 13 again
5. I haven't been to the gym in almost a week cause I feel like a blob

Obviously, some needs to be done. Now, I know that I have started dieting stacks of times and rarely make it past the first month. So that concept just seems to be doomed to failure. But I can't keep eating a small African nation's gross sugar production every week. I am very much a candy junkie - and what do we do with junkies? We put them in rehab. Unfortunately, not really an option. The real addicts would probably beat up on me and I'm pretty much too tied up with problem 3 to take a month or two off.

Option B then, cold turkey. I hate cold turkey. Did it with cigarettes last year and it sucked (worked though. There is a further problem, realistically, can I expect NEVER to eat processed sugar again? Nope. Not gonna happen. At some point, somebody is gonna give me Lindt Dark Chocolate with Orange (or, they will if they love me *hint* *hint* )and I can't let that go to waste - it would be criminal. No, I need to kick the sugar habit without making it impossible. So it take 21 days to form or break a habit right? So I'll give myself a month to be on the safe side. A one month Candy Fast. No candy, chocolate, ice-cream, jam, baked goods, soda or dessert. This is gonna be tough.
